Dull Looking Skin: The Three Things Behind It and What Brings the Light Back
Skin that looks flat and grey in the mirror is usually dry, unevenly textured or both. What each looks like, how to tell them apart, and what to do about each.
What it looks like
No glow, even after a good sleep. Foundation looks matte and heavy. In photos the face reads flat, with none of the light catching the cheekbones.
What tends to be behind the look
Three things, usually. A build up of dead cells on the surface scatters light. Dehydration makes the surface less reflective. And tiredness or a hard week shows in skin tone before it shows anywhere else.
What helps the look
Gentle exfoliation once or twice a week so light hits a smoother surface. Hydration every night so the surface is plump enough to reflect it. Vitamin C in the morning for the look of brightness. Sunscreen so the tone stays even.
What does not
Scrubbing daily. Brightening products that are really just fragrance and a shimmer. Skipping moisturiser because your skin is oily.
Where a PDRN roller serum fits
On the nights you do not exfoliate, roll the PDRN serum over the whole face. Hydrated skin reflects light; the roller lays the serum down evenly so no patch is left flat. It is the simplest way to make the surface catch light again by morning.
A routine that takes a minute
- Exfoliate gently, two nights a week at most.
- On every other night, cleanse and roll the serum.
- Cream over the top if your skin runs dry.
- Vitamin C and sunscreen in the morning.
Where Silka fits
Silka is a PDRN serum with a microneedle roller head on the bottle, made and shipped from New Zealand. The roller is the most practical way we know to put PDRN on every night: the head spreads the serum evenly across face and neck, nothing is left behind in your palm, and the whole routine takes about a minute, which is the part that makes a habit last.
