What Is a Humectant? The Ingredient Type Behind Plumped Looking Skin
An ingredient that draws water to the surface of skin and holds it there. Glycerin, hyaluronic acid and PDRN serums all work this way.
On the label
Glycerin, hyaluronic acid, sodium hyaluronate, propanediol, urea, sodium PCA. High on the list means a hydrating product.
What it does not mean
It does not mean the water stays. In dry air a humectant alone can leave skin feeling tight by evening, which is why an occlusive layer goes over it.
